Field notes on journeys into expansive spaces

Exploratory Thinking

Ay up duck, what could regional dialects and local accents do for you and your brand?

“How do cha?”

“Ay up duck”

“Dat’s boss dat is”

“Y’alright der kid?”

“Oh, hadaway yi daft bugga”

We absolutely blooming love regional accents and dialects.

So much so, we did a little diggin’ ont’ subject.

To our surprise it’s said there’s over a whopping 40 varying dialects across the UK. Each completely unique and distinctively different from one another.

That’s pretty much one per county! Crikey!

But accents and dialects are more than just a regional language.

They’re:

✖️ Peoples identity

✖️ Peoples unique point of difference from others

✖️ People’s way of standing out from others in places where everyone else sounds the same

Now we think brands could learn a ting or two from our regional accents and dialects.

Ave a butchers at some examples of brands who’ve got it right when it comes to bringing through accents and dialect:

By tapping into our charismatic and rich accents and dialects brands can:

✖️Create a tone of voice and brand language exclusive to you that stands out when everyone else sounds the same

✖️Help build provenance through using your brand’s origins to bolster its identity and differentiate it from your competitors

✖️Build strong relationships with your consumers by celebrating and championing your brand’s roots

✖️Tapping into the pride amongst locals could create a potential army of brand ambassadors proud to buy your brand or products

✖️Can build distinctive memory structures in the minds of consumers
