5 x bits of culture to add to your weekend itinerary

Documentary: The Melt Goes on Forever: The Art & Times of David Hammons a fantastic documentary chronicling the career of the ‘elusive’ African-American artist David Hammons and his rule-breaking practices rooted in a deep critique of American society and the elitist art world. A must cultural watch for all.

Exhibition: If you get the chance to grab a ticket to see this over the weekend we highly recommend you do so, if not don’t worry yourself you’ve got until August 28th to go and experience it. Yayoi Kusamas, You, Me and the Balloons exhibition is one of the centrepieces of the Manchester International Festival, this MEGA immersive exhibition is a psychedelic kaleidoscope packed with giant dolls, 10 metre tall works, polka-dot creations and much much more.

Book: Ever remember the oddly satisfying meals you’d knock up after a heavy night out in your 20’s? Well Scrounging: A Cookbook by A24 and Matty Matheson is stacked full of recipes that’ll take you back to your uni days and those early hour gourmet concoctions. It’s the cookbook our recipe shelves deserve.

Challenge: If you’re stuck for something to do this Sunday and you fancy a challenge we’ve got just the thing for you. Aquasphere Epic Lakes Swim Derwent takes place this Sunday 9th and is the second event of the Epic Lakes Open Water Swim Series. There’s the option of either the 500m, the 1 mile or the ‘Iron’ 3.8k distances, depending upon your age and ability. So if you’re up for a challenge and don’t mind getting wet, why not test yourself this Sunday, the weather’s looking good for it. GET YOURSELF SIGNED UP HERE

Hotel: Fancy a room with a view? Then the Crane Hotel in Faralda, Amsterdam is the perfect stay for you. Located in the bustling NDSM area of Amsterdam and overlooking the IJ river, there’s 3 uniquely ‘themed’ suites situated 45 meters above ground. And if being that high up isn’t thrilling enough you can relax in the jacuzzi located on the top floor or take a leap of faith from the top deck via the mega swing or bungee. Both supervised by certified professionals of course.
